Nieko joined the Norwin Marching Band staff in 2019 as both a trumpet instructor and a visual instructor. As an Alumnus of the Norwin Band program (2019), he is well acquainted with the standard of excellence as well as the expectations of both the staff and students.

Nieko is currently attending Youngstown State University where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education with an emphasis on Trumpet. So far while at YSU, he has performed with the Jazz Ensemble playing lead trumpet as well as with a select Wind Ensemble for a recording project, hand selected by Dr. Stephen Gage. Nieko has been a musician for 10 years and throughout that time, has had the opportunity to study with many great teachers including Bruce “Bud” Weissert, Mr. Devon Lippmann, Mr. Joseph Perrino from The River City Brass Band, Dr. James Moore from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Dr. William Stowman from Messiah University, and his current instructor, Dr. Christopher Krummel from Youngstown State University. Additionally, Nieko has had the privilege to work with many fantastic jazz musicians and clinicians such as Mr. Mike Tomaro from Duquesne University, Dr. Jason Kush from Slippery Rock University, Mr. Mike Kamuf from John T. Baker Middle School in Maryland, and Mr. Bob Matchett from Seneca Valley school district.

In addition to his attendance at YSU, Nieko teaches private trumpet lessons and is a freelance musician in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. During his time as a freelance musician, he has had the opportunity to play in The Murphy Music Center Big Band as a section player as well as the Glass City Swing Band and Balcony Big as the lead trumpet player.

Being a part of the Norwin Marching Band staff has been an amazing experience in Nieko’s career thus far and he is looking forward to the years ahead. He cannot wait to see what level the students will reach!
