Greg Ondayko has held the position of Assistant Band Director at Norwin
High School for 10 years. His duties include directing the Concert Band, assisting with the Marching Band, Jazz Band and serving as supervisor of the Woodwind program at Norwin
High School. Mr. Ondayko also teaches Music Technology I, II, & III as well as woodwind and brass lessons in repertory class. Before joining the instructional staff at Norwin
High School, Greg had served as a marching / woodwind tech at both Mars
Area
High School, Mars Pa, and Thomas
Jefferson
High School, Plesant Hills PA.
Mr. Ondayko was raised in West Mifflin, PA where he began his instrumental studies on clarinet, then picked up saxophone, and later flute. In addition to studying woodwinds and band pedagogy, Greg was fortunate to have gone through the West Mifflin Area High School Music Technology Program. Under the tutelage of Mr. Vito DiSalvo, he learned about this continually evolving area of music and uses those skills in a day to day capacity at Norwin. In addition to being an assistant Band director, Mr. Ondayko has also started a Music Technology program at Norwin
High School. The program is in it’s 7th year now and has been growing steadily.
Under the direction of Mr. Ondayko, the Norwin High School Concert Band has been adjudicated at Musicfest Orlando in 2002 and 2005 Earning a 1st and 2nd place ranking in AAA, and has earned a superior rating at the PMEA Adjudication Festival in 2007.
Ondayko Graduated with a Bachelors degree in Music education from Slippery
Rock
University in 2001. Mr. Ondayko’s former teachers include: Vito DiSalvo Jim Guerra, Terry Steele, Stacey Steele, Matt Litterini, Mechelle Hawk, and Dr. Stephen Hawk.
Mr. Ondayko is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association and the Westmoreland County Music Educators Association. Greg also maintains a studio of clarinet, saxophone, and flute students. When Greg is not at school teaching he can be can be found restoring, repairing, driving, or racing one of his many classic MoPar vehicles.
